Life Together

Here at Lincoln Christian Church we operate under the dictum life together emphasizing spiritual growth alongside relational growth among believers in the Body of Christ. In other words, spiritual growth does not take place in a vacuum, but must begin to be lived out—and is most easily fostered—in relational valuing community.

As people grow in their relationship with God they also begin to grow in their relationships with other people. These relationships continue to foster and develop into a changed worldview that influences the very core of our being and actions, helping us to shape and influence the world around us.

What we see in the bible

The Gospel of John depicts one of the first scenes of the disciples after Jesus' death and resurrection: "Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples, by the Sea of Tiberias. It happened this way: Simon Peter, Thomas (called Didymus), Nathaniel from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together. 'I'm going out to fish' Simon Peter told them, and they said, 'We'll go with you'. . ." (21:1-3a).

The Book of Acts further describes the apostles and other early disciples of Jesus after his ascension: "When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place" (2:1).

Finally, John reminds us again that Jesus spoke of our spiritual vocation as "reapers" in tandem with the Father: "I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. Even now the reaper draws his wages, even now he harvests the crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together" (4:35b-36).

a simple analogy

One cannot learn to be a good friendThis sounds simple, right?

Along these same lines, we strive to become better Christians in the various aspects of our daily lives by learning from and interacting with other like-minded Christians on a weekly basis. We strive to become better mothers by sharing time with other mothers. We strive to become more compassionate spouses by learning from other couples. We strive to become understanding coworkers by exchanging with others in the workforce. Better . . .

                                                                                                                     . . . friends alongside friends

                                                                                                                     . . . fathers alongside fathers

                                                                                                                     . . . volunteers alongside volunteers

                                                                                                                     . . . teachers among teachers

Our goal is to grow alongside one another in these interpersonal relationships all while being saturated, infused, and at times directed away from cultural prescriptions, by the Scriptures.

Discover, Connect, Impact

As a church bonded by a common mission, life together, we seek to enable people through a simple threefold structure: Discover God, Connect to Each Other, and Impact the World. In this way we have asked our people to commit to three steps in their spiritual development:

  1. Discovering God through worship and Bible study
  2. Connecting with others through small groups and true fellowship
  3. Impacting our world through acts of loving service

We desire for anyone attending our church to enter into these steps and begin enjoying life together with us. We are hoping you will grow spiritually, in knowledge of the Bible, meet great people, create close friendships, and influence others for the better. So, what are you waiting for? Do we have a place for you! Come and start enjoying life together with us at Lincoln Christian Church.
